Character Design: Mouncey

Mouncey is a melancholy cat who is unable to move on to the afterlife due to the death of his owner. The goal of this design was to use a shape language that reflected his sadness, while additionally reflecting a water motif with flowing, wavy shapes as his purgatory takes the form of an ocean.

A challenge with this design was striking a balance between having realism while also allowing him to show emotion. My solution to this was giving him accurate cat anatomy while also having a stylized face with markings that compliment and exaggerate his expressions.
